I planned to freebirth but my babe decided to move from head down to transverse in labour, and I decided to transfer.

My birth story is here - http://occasionalemma.wordpress.com/2012/02/11/our-birth-story/ - if you want to read it. I'm very glad to have read yours. I beat myself up a lot over my choices during my labour, but reading your story (which is so similar to mine) made me feel like I was on the outside looking in, watching a strong woman making tough choices, and it made me feel better about my own. I'm so sorry.

I'm so glad your boy is well and that you are too despite that horrific experience in hospital.

You are an amazing, courageous intuitive woman - you knew what you needed and you went with that. I'm in awe of you. Your doula sounds awesome too as does your family. Thank you so much for sharing your story.

From your words it is clear that those hospital employees behaved very very badly - their words and their behaviour is unacceptable and completely unprofessional. I apologise on behalf of them - as a midwife and educator I'm ashamed of their behaviour.

Please write to the administration and complain. They need to know how their employees are treating vulnerable people. From what you have said, they bullied you. Their words sound like they were punishing you for your choices.

No wonder you feel distressed.

Birth is as birth does. Mostly it goes very well. We don't know how things are going to go in 5% of situations BUT when things deviate, then we health professionals have a duty of care to provide expedient, safe and kind care - they didn't do that.

Your feelings are your guide to how you were treated. If you had been treated with love and respect, you would feel very differently - because you knew you needed something different. I bet the boy would have been just fine if they'd acted quicker and more kindly. I feel so cranky with them when I read what happened to you. Please put in a complaint and get some good counselling to heal the wound of the soul that happens with that sort of dreadful experience. Love and hugs to you, CarolynThinkbirthhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09813359204378047414noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-19446103491191346572012-03-03T23:45:06.355+11:002012-03-03T23:45:06.355+11:00I'm so sorry this was how it went :( it is so ...I'm so sorry this was how it went :( it is so wretchedly unfair. My heart breaks for you and Oscar, you deserved an ecstatic homebirth, you deserved to catch him, to be awake and unhindered. We will never know why this was his journey, but whatever the reason I am so grateful to you both for allowing me to share it with you. I wish love had been enough.

Despite all the heartbreaking moments of this journey, I will hold dearest the memory of your incredible instinct. Your selflessness and bravery. You were a warrior for that boy every step of the way and I hope you are able to love yourself for your heroic efforts. Where is that 'spit drink' smiley?...Hahaha! Where is that 'spit drink' smiley? (Sorry, I haven't checked blogs for a while, and this is a beauty of a post!)

But seriously, I believe that 'feminism' (I hate that word though) is about having choices. Choose to go work, choose to stay at home. Choose to cut hair off, choose to leave it. No biggy.

I personally shave very rarely.

I read John Taylor Gatto's 'Weapons of mass instruction' a few weeks ago, and he talks (well, more like he vehemently argues) about how schooling keeps people in a perpetual child-like state. He makes a pretty strong argument, which, interestingly, got me thinking about the whole shaving thing, and wondering if it is related to being vulnerable?Kelhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04992980002423396335noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-8978781594207391432009-10-01T11:00:57.557+10:002009-10-01T11:00:57.557+10:00I like smooth too.. for both genders LOLI like smooth too.. for both genders LOLGeniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17410044461821422754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-84422006502974367422009-10-01T00:08:10.907+10:002009-10-01T00:08:10.907+10:00LOL! I have put all of 24 hours of my lif...Hi Earthworm,
I have put all of 24 hours of my life into why women started shaving LOL
I don't really care why people do or don't these days. I am a feminist and I shave. I just wonder how and why it becomes the norm to remove something on our body that is meant to be there.
Why is pink a girls colour? Why does society believe women are more feminine if they wax and shave and wear dresses and skirts and push up bras?
Why are men classed as metro-sexual or sissy's if they get manicures and shave their chests?
Why is there always a stereotype and label for everyone who decides to dress or look a certain way?
Some may say that I am not a true feminist because I shave. Some women may be labeled as man haters and lesbians because they don't shave..

So, if you read my disclaimer on my post you would realise that I agree with you... I am not commented on YOUR legs, I am commenting on the history of it all.. the reasons people choose do to things now may be totally different than 70+ years ago.Geniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17410044461821422754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-4851804615567099922009-09-27T17:13:52.012+10:002009-09-27T17:13:52.012+10:00Hmmm...Some like to and some don't, what does ...Hmmm...Some like to and some don't, what does it matter? Do we have to make judgements and assumptions based on our particular bias about it?
Throughout my adult life I have had periods of time when I don't shave/wax and periods of time when I do, usually based on what I feel like doing at the time. What always astounds me is that people think they have the right to comment whether I do or whether I don't. Quiet frankly I don't think it's anyones business whatever I choose to do.
I am continually amazed at the amount of spare time some people must have if they can sit around speculating on why someone does/doesnt't shave/wax whatever they choose.
I hope you are looking other cultures as well as western ones as we are not unique in this.
I also hope you will devote some time to looking at what motivates men to wax their body hair at the request of their partners.Earthwormhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07800088347889599596noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-28356746501683271472009-09-20T13:18:26.060+10:002009-09-20T13:18:26.060+10:00LOL you can gate crash anytime AOTELOL you can gate crash anytime AOTEGeniehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17410044461821422754noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4217688681499512080.post-34092840815769123892009-09-20T10:53:35.872+10:002009-09-20T10:53:35.872+10:00Happy birthday Aiden!!!! I didn't think they would be so tolerant of kids with these types of special needs.. but her teacher was practically begging me to let her try and help.
